Enlisting and Providing Support

As you many of you may know, my advocacy issue is teenage and young mothers. I teach so many children who have teenage or either very young mothers, my plan is to  present my advocacy action plan to the teenage parents at a parent meeting to provide them with the current issue which is teenage parents and all of the many concerns and or issues that accompany teenage parents. Some current issues are child abuse and neglect, lack of education or understanding of child development, which leads to the lack of parenting skills, and continuing their education, and the important role that family involvement plays in both their lives and their children. I would like to share some information and provide these mothers with resources, referrals, and emotional support to help resolve some of these issues. I am open to any suggestions, resources or ideas that any of my collogues have to offer to help my advocacy action plan be successful. Some resources that I have found to be helpful are; Options for Youth. (2010) Creating Options for Youth: Retrieved from http://options4youth.og , Mangino, J.G. (2008). Voices of teen mothers: Their challenges, support systems, and successes. Retrieved from http://etd.library.pitt.edu/ , and the Subsequently Pregnancy Program.

  1. giving young moms a plan that helps them organize with teens like themselves. connecting them to groups that teen moms can get ideas about feeding, and health issues of babies. Connecting with groups that may help them with time management in their new life with thier baby.
These are places they can go and feel comfortable around other people that are their age.

  2. I wish you the best of luck Tan with your advocacy effort. Young mothers as well as fathers need support during their young lives and I am glad that you have decided to give them some much needed help. Do you see yourself collaborating with any other programs in the near future?

    1. Thanks Roberto! In the near future I would like to create a Place where teen mothers can talk, connect, share ideas, and support each other.

    2. Hi Tanya, I think your advocacy effort to help teen moms is great, because so many teen mom's don't get the support at home. You providing them with that extra support can help change their lives, and give them a brighter outlook on life. Keep up the good work and I hope you have great success with your advocacy effort.

  3. Thanks for all your support and encouragement in my advocacy efforts. It really takes people like you who care about children and their families to helping many child and parent interactions. Especially when you have so many thoughts about the teenage young moms, and are concerned they have the proper help to take on caring for their children.
